A Level 2 home charger runs on a dedicated 240 volt circuit and charges much faster than a standard wall outlet. For most drivers it means a full battery by morning. Getting it right comes down to one question: what can your panel carry?
We check capacity first
Before any wire is pulled, we run a load calculation on your home. That tells us the largest charger your panel can support, so the charger never trips the house.
What the install covers
- load calculation and circuit sizing
- a dedicated circuit from the panel to the charger
- hardwired charger or a 240 volt outlet, whichever suits the unit
- garage or driveway mounting
- permit and inspection where required
Any charger brand
Bring the charger you already bought, or ask us which one fits your car and your panel.
If the panel is full
Some homes need more capacity first. If yours does, a panel upgrade can usually be done as part of the same project.
Where we do this work

Quick answers
What size circuit does a Level 2 charger need?
It depends on the charger. A charger that draws 48 amps needs a 60 amp circuit, because EV charging counts as a continuous load. Many homes use a 40 or 50 amp circuit for a smaller charger.
Will I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?
Not always. A load calculation shows whether your panel has the capacity. If it does not, the options are a panel upgrade or a lower charging rate.
Do you install any brand of charger?
Yes. Hofer Electrical installs any charger brand, whether you bought it already or want help choosing.
